Chemical Recycling of Plastic Waste to Higher Value Lubricants

Aeternal’s technology addresses the growing global plastic waste crisis by converting waste plastics into higher value lubricants, waxes, and surfactants in an economically viable process.

The process utilizes catalytic metal nanoparticles on a nanocube support under mild conditions to selectively fragment the plastic into smaller, higher-value hydrocarbon species. This would divert plastic waste away from landfills and oceans, thereby reducing carbon emissions and toxic microplastics, while creating value-added products that can either be used directly or slightly modified across the automotive, chemical, and household consumer industries. Aeternal is focused on an innovation developed at Argonne and the proposed project will leverage many existing Argonne resourses and scientists.
